  • "What was the biggest problem with Windows 95?"
    - The name.

The Biggest difference in the products is that apple finishes the damn things, gets them working properly, THEN starts the advertising campaign. Yes, it keeps them 6 months behind the cutting edge of technology, but the bulk of the users won't hear about the cutting edge for that period of time anyway. When MS announced Windows 95, they hadn't finished the contracts for all the software they were borrowing to build on. When a major contract fell through, they had to start a re-write.

I honestly believe that they haven't recovered since. This lead to all the dirty pool, backstabbing, class actions, etc.
    • Apple ads will be studied in college ad classes for years to come. They tend to do EVERYTHING right, whether it's TV, print and now even online (anybody seen the new internet ad on the NY Times front page: 'Easy as 1-23'? Perfection!)

Apple's creative team keeps the message and the image very clean, very simple and very pointed. And it goes WAY back; not just the ongoing 'I'm a Mac' campaign. All the way back to when Jobs returned and treated us to the Think Different campaign.

And don't forget, '1984' was one of his last throws at Apple before they gave him the boot....and you know how heralded that TV spot has become.

Please... name me one MSFT commercial of print ad older than 5 years.
