Our mac book has started switching itself off unexpectedly. When we start up there are no messages re: Mac OS X quit etc, etc.
It may do it a few times then run ok, or it may not do it at all.
It is only 12 months old and has had no other problems.

anyone else experienced this?

    ABSOLUTELY !!!!
Well... sort of absolutely... mine doesn't 'shut down', it reverts suddenly to the LogOn screen...

At times if left alone for awhile i will wake it up to find the log-on screen there..., other times i can leave it forever, and return to whatever screen i left it at....

Strangely enuff... it actually seems to happen more likely if i leave it playing iTunes, while connected to my home stereo....
That isnt the only instance..., but seems to occur more frequently in that instance.....
