scanning software?

topic posted Wed, January 9, 2008 - 9:16 PM by  Shawn
Since I upgraded to Leopard I've lost the ability to scan with my HP all in one. Does anyone know of any good software that is either open source or not too expensive? I uninstalled the original HP programs because I wanted to get the latest drivers for 10.5 and the printer but I'm not sure the new drivers would've worked with the old programs. Anyone know if that's the case as well? Any help would be appreciated!

    Yep!
    SANE:

    OSX specific TWAIN SANE interface:

I know fink has SANE, and some x11-based frontends for it. MacPorts has sane-backends, twain-sane, and xsane (x11 frontend). If you already have something that can import from a TWAIN source (photoshop, gimp, etc), then all you need is the backend and the TWAIN interface.

I'll second the VueScan suggestion. I haven't used it since upgrading to Leopard but Jason Hamrick does a great job and for me (working on a laptop and never sure what I will be able to connect with) VueScan is a godsend. I went for the fancier version, but every version I have ever tried has been great, and he updates it often (www.hamrick.com/vsm.html)
