I repaired my Powerbook myself by using the guides from this site. It has all the directions you need and a way to identify exactly which model you have and what parts may be needed. Check it out.

    www.ifixit.com/

    Go to this page:

    www.ifixit.com/Guide/

I replaced the logic board, dc in board, logic board battery and hard drive. One of the best sites on the web.

Buy something from them too if you need parts and support em.

I've repaired iBooks, but I prefer to leave it to our techs, who do this type of thing all day long. All of the screws are different and it takes forever (at least for a graphic designer like me). Check out TechRestore, you can send 'em both in and a technician will layout your options for repair and/or salvaging parts from the other iBook.

If you're gonna try to do this yourself, Use a tip from the pros: Get an Ice Cube tray and number each cell. As you take screws off, put them in groups in the tray, in increasing numbers. that way, it's really easy to go back and put it all together without guessing "where does this screw go?"

Also, If you can, video tape the procedure so that you can go back and ask yourself "how'd I get this part off?"

Stosh... I say this because I really care....
There are a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing.

Seriously, though, the hacker typing thing is sooo 90's. Punctuation in, funny characters ... passé.

I'm actually Brian, the graphic designer, not Shannon, the CEO, but I'll pass on the shout, Steve. Shannon actually founded MacResQ (that's the company that I used to work for) but there were some disagreements about how to best grow the company, so he sold his share and started fresh with TechRestore (taking the most experienced techs with him, since they weren't gonna move to Kansas).

          HAHah.. ºk Brian,
          ..i may understand your predicament..
ßack to the repair René..Go to the local Dollar Store and get a set (5) of those little jewelry screwdrivers, ok ¿
..they work quite well on the Torx® screws in side your G3 with a pair of needle nose pliers..uh, also, don't use locktite® or any thing blue & sticky on the screws until you get it back together and then just scotch tape over any screw heads that you may see..
..Lol, Brian.. thanks for fixing my stuƒƒ B 4..i still use my Alias-wavefront Maya® CD soƒtware and just set the clock back to 2003 to make it fully functional..saran wrap® the keyboard with aforementioned scotch tape René so water doesn't get in ..

Just to clarify, it's the small flat-head screwdrivers, not the phillips, that work in place of a Torx driver. I'm not sure where water comes into the picture though, or how Scotch tape would help. I must have missed a post or two, someplace!

I used one of these sites to replace my hard disk, but I cant remember which one I used...

              www.faqintosh.com/risorse/e...book/g4hd/
              www.sterpin.net/uk/ddibookg4uk.htm

I had to pretty much hollow the whole thing out to replace it.. but if you follow the thing step by step, (and yeah, I labelled a tray thingy with an a,b,c,.. system to be able to backtrack the screws, ice cube tray sounds perfect), but its all running nicely now.

It was my first attempt of such a thing, and I still managed. I would give it a go if I were you.

" I'm not sure where water comes into the picture though, or how Scotch tape would help."
..lol ..the scotch tape is to keep water out and the screws in ..on the outer case..the last mac® luggable - transportable i ever owned was a Mac +..
                i have owned powerbooks ever since..don't get me started on sys's 2.7 - 9.x..
