This is a simple tip which ranks up there with getting a free printer with every purchase of a mac (which is almost always an option though never mentioned.)
you can get a back up phone for free with your iphone.

Tue, September 25, 2007 - 6:36 AMNot to be a smart ass but that's true for almost every Feb.
Something new will come out :)
The only device that keeps on going is, to my surprise, the Sony PSP. Sony is still selling them. -

Re: iphone purchase tip
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 12:23 AMHi, all! I'm new, but I have little tip on the above statement. If you wait till Febuary for Apple to announce an upgraded iphone, you'll still have to wait for 6 months after for approval from the agency that approves cell phones (I am blanking on the name). This is the reason that the iphone was announced in January, but not released till June, for the approval process. Apple won't send a new phone in for approval without announcing it first because it becomes public knowledge after it's submitted. I wanted to wait for v2, as well, but I realized it wouldn't be out till at least June again, unless they announce in October, which is unlikely.

Re: iphone purchase tip
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 11:45 PMApple has gotten really good about keeping new products under wraps, besides with the recent price reduction I dont think they plan on releasing a new iPhone for a bit. I could be wrong, but if you look at the iPhone as more of of a computer than a phone, you'll realize the 2 IOS updates they have done have corrected "issues" that they've had. The next evolution in iPhone is probably going to be something with more memory, a louder speaker phone and maybe a GPS antenna, I doubt any major major changes.
As far as processing is concerned, it's pretty dang fast and its probably one of the best integrated devices I've ever had. Granted with that integration comes some limitations that aren't all too unfamiliar with anyone who owns a mac. Pictures can only be emailed not text messaged, multimedia messages cannot be viewed from the iPhone, IM is incompatible, no Java support in the Safari browser. Not truly enterprise email integrated. Limited Bluetooth capabilities. Speaker phone that only works well in quiet environments. Some weird proprietary headphone jack that only works with an adapter. Crappy crappy crappy headphones/handsfree headset.
But other then that I love it. Do I expect these issues will be resolved in the next generation iPhone? Some but not all. It may have been deliberate that some standard things for even low end cellphones where left out, or it could have been a space consideration or technology limitations or a combination of them all. What the iPhone does it does well, so there are no concessions there.
Everything is prone to improvement and eventually if you wait long enough you'll see that improvement. The price reduction is a sign to me that they plan on sticking with this first generation iPhone for a while. Given the history of iPods, I wouldn't expect another revolution till a couple generations from this one. It cost a lot to retool a factory.
