Love it or hate it?
www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/guidedtour/
Personally, I hate it. I hate the idea that you can only use the apple headphones. And I hate the text to speech feature, since at least in the demo the voice is so poor. I simply don't want to listen to that voice.
Maybe love and hate are strong words. But this certainly isn't an ipod for me. What do you guys think?

Re: New ipod shuffle
Thu, March 12, 2009 - 1:51 AMI dunno, I like the larger capacity, but I thin abandoning the original model was a mistake. I don't like the fact that you can't select the voice (why female for PC?). Of the Mac voices, I prefer Victora, it's the one I can understand best.
I don't think you _must_ use apple headphones, but it wouldn't surprise me. They've started getting nasty about their overpriced cabling by putting chips in them and making the firmware look for those chips. -

The only controls for the device are built into the headphones.
But, I read in the news today, that you can apparently buy a $20 adapter with separate controls. -

Re: New ipod shuffle
Thu, March 12, 2009 - 12:20 PMThat price will drop quickly. All the iPhone adaptors are running about $1.50 right now.
Controls? We don't need no stinking Badges! Look, you pop in a standard set of headphones, click it on to "shuffle" and it works just like the old one. It *plays* but you don't get to direct which songs come next (or the volume apparently).
