I have a trusty old 12" G4 Powerbook.
These days when I plug the cord into it to charge it I feel an electric-ish sensation running through it when I touch the aluminum body.
It doesn'ts shock me, but it's defintely "alive" to the touch.
This has never happened before!
I only use it now and keep it plugged in when I am using it.
So what do you think might be wrong with it?
I think it's a short...
And yes, everything functions correctly just like before.
Thanks in advance!

Re: What's Wrong With My Mac? "Electric" sensation...
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 7:13 PMYou got a multimeter lying around? If so, touch one probe to a ground and the other to the aluminum/titanium frame of the PB using the volts dc range. -

Duh! I should've thought of that.
Let me see if I can get my hands on one and I will post again. -

Wed, July 8, 2009 - 5:13 PMIf it's not doing it when you're running on battery, it's probably not a short. It sounds like a ground fault to me. First try a different building, then a different powercord (if you can borrow one for a minute). See if it clears up with either of those. If so, you know what it is, if not, then yeah, might be a powerboard short. -

Re: What's Wrong With My Mac? "Electric" sensation...
Thu, July 9, 2009 - 9:55 PMIf your machine isn't properly grounded, it can build up a static charge and react this way. The third prong on your adaptor's wall cord bleeds off this charge. It can't happen when running off battery.
If that third hole in your outlet isn't properly grounded, nothing plugged into will be. In apartments, particularly ones that have been sold a couple times or have inexperienced managers, the grounding system can become compromised. In any building with basement remodeling or kids running around in the basement, this can happen too.
This is why I suggest trying a different building. It's free to you, and tells a lot right away. -

Fri, July 10, 2009 - 7:01 AMA bad multi-strip can also be the culprit. -
