Re: MAXTOR HAS ENDED MY LIFE
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 1:01 PMI have had a couple of hard drives fail with the exact same problem. This program recovered my files both times.....
www.prosofteng.com/products...enius.php
in the future, you should back up everything twice....having files on one hard drive is not a back up...i know this from experience. -

Re: MAXTOR HAS ENDED MY LIFE
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 2:33 PMI know this won't help you now, but came across this server based hard drive backup solution:
mozy.com/home
only $4.95 a month -

Re: MAXTOR HAS ENDED MY LIFE
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 3:33 PMMaxtor is crap! I had one recently die on me. It started making horrible rattling noises, followed by a horrible whirring sound, then nothing. Stay away from MAxtor!

Re: MAXTOR HAS ENDED MY LIFE
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 7:18 PMSend the drive in for data recovery to a reputable company.
If you have data that is mission critical, you MUST have a redundant back-up. You have several options:
Retrospect to a second drive
Time Capsule from Apple
Mirrored array
Raid 5 Array
Online back-up service
Burn DVDs of everything
I'm sure there are other options I've forgotten. My personal choice is Raid 5, five 1TB drives, if any one fails, the rest can reconstruct the lost data. Another recommended redundancy is to buy a drive for every client, keep their data off site (at home if you work in an office, at the office if you work at home, in safety deposit box, at your parents' house, etc.). -

Sun, May 25, 2008 - 11:37 PMRaid is awesome I just learned about that. Maybe for my birthday.
Diskwarrior Fixed the problem and I just bought a new External HD and I am backing everything up through Time Machine. -

Mon, May 26, 2008 - 10:12 PMPhew,
All's well that ends swell
Them U S B flash drives makes pretty good backup devices , too , depending on how many terabytes of data you have
