Just curious-
How many of you that have a laptop actually have/use an external keyboard and monitor on a regular basis to work on a larger screen or more comfortably with a full-size keyboard?

Re: Laptop with external keyboard/monitor
Sun, September 16, 2007 - 1:36 PMWhen I am doing video work with Final Cut, I plug in my monitor and will often use the keyboard and mouse as well. I use two monitors for Final Cut.
Also when I am work I often will plug in a keyboard/Mouse and the extra monitor so I can have XP (Parallels) running on the external monitor and OS X on the Laptop screen. It makes it easy to pop between the two.

Thu, September 20, 2007 - 9:17 AMI used to. But now I move my laptop around my apartment a lot. The convenience factor is too hard to deny. -

Re: Laptop with external keyboard/monitor
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 10:51 PMI have the 17" MacBook Pro sitting on top of a Griffin elevator stand.. and I also have the new iMac thin keyboard that I got for $48 that gives me the ability to use the numeric keypad. No need for a different monitor.. and doesn't take up a lot of room. -

Re: Laptop with external keyboard/monitor
Fri, November 23, 2007 - 8:54 PMtwo screens rocks... i have had an old 15 and a 20 in. flat side by side for years. love the availability to have mail open or movies playing on the smaller screen. while i work or surf on the bigger.
i set up my new 15 in. laptop with my 20 in. flat once but didn't like the way the screens worked together much so i just keep the laptop seperate and keep the old g4 purring for the other screens.
sometimes i have both computers on the same desk working with 3 screens, 2 mice and 2 keyboards, especially when i am burning dvds... it does get confusing tho' which mouse or keyboard to use for what.

Re: Laptop with external keyboard/monitor
Mon, November 26, 2007 - 4:41 PMHey there, after they eliminated the Apple Duo laptop many of us turned to using external video and keyboards. If you are going to work this way on a regular basis I suggest investigating BookEndz, they are the equivalent of a dock in the Mac world and will save a lot of plug juggling. I find that I am much more productive doing my graphics work on a separate monitor with a separate mouse and keyboard.
Good luck

Re: Laptop with external keyboard/monitor
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 5:28 PMWhen I use my G4 powerbook at home, I always use a standard keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Laptop keyboards are just not designed for real data entry.

Sat, December 15, 2007 - 4:19 PMI use my Macbook Pro between school and home, I use a Bookendz docking station so I don't have to fuss with all the cables (monitor, printer, speakers, etc). Works great!

Re: Laptop with external keyboard/monitor
Sat, January 26, 2008 - 11:30 PMYeah for sure, the Apple bluetooth keyboard is great for using final cut and is also handy for just kicking back on the couch and word processing or using as a remote control for iTunes.
